ROOTAS Chile is an immersive Latin-Jewish travel experience designed for young adults from Los Angeles who are eager to deepen their sense of identity, community, and global connection. From Monday, February 15 to Sunday, February 22, participants will journey together as a cohort to learn, explore, and engage directly with Chile’s vibrant culture, rich history, and diverse Jewish community.
Through site visits, conversations with local leaders, encounters with Chilean Jews, and hands-on cultural activities, participants will gain new perspectives on Latin American Jewish peoplehood. Alongside these experiences, the cohort will build a network of peers who share a commitment to elevating Latin-Jewish stories.
Applications are open now through Monday, November 3rd. Please reach out to community@jewtina.org with any questions.
This trip is for:
We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generous support of our funders and our partnership with NuRoots, ROOTAS Chile is offered at a highly subsidized price of $1500. This fee covers double-occupancy hotel accommodations, meals, and in-country transportation (including domestic airfare), offering an affordable and inclusive experience. Single occupancy hotel accommodations are available at a $1000 supplement.
Please note that your participation fee does not include international airfare to Santiago, Chile and from Temuco, Chile or personal spending money. All participants are required to secure cancellation and/or travel insurance for their international flights.
All participants are required to attend a mandatory pre-travel virtual learning session that will serve as a group orientation and provide important context for our journey to Chile. This session will cover trip framing, safety guidelines, itinerary details, learning objectives, and provide an opportunity to meet fellow participants.
Every participant is asked to bring their learning to life by creating one post-trip initiative that shares the insights and experiences of ROOTAS Chile with their community in Los Angeles.
These participant-led programs extend the impact of your ROOTAS journey, building bridges between communities and ensuring the stories you encounter in Chile continue to inspire long after you return.
Your journey together doesn't end when you return home! We're bringing the entire group back together for a reunion celebration in March.
